The News, Technology, and Society Network exists principally to foster external engagement with researchers at other universities and with industry representatives.
To this end, we have a visiting researchers program where academics or representatives from the news media industry are welcomed to campus for short visits (up to a week to give a talk, facilitate a workshop, or get a taste of the Network’s intellectual community) or longer, semester-long visits to undertake a more sustained collaborative project.
Visiting researchers can be from academia or industry and at early, mid-, or senior career stages. Visiting researchers who stay for a longer period are normally given an RMIT email address, library access, and access to a hot desk (if one is available). They participate in the Network’s activities and are expected to deliver at least one mutually agreed output appropriate to the length of stay.
What we’re looking for
Given the limited space and staff time we have available, we prioritise visiting researchers who:
- Are self-funded;
- Have an excellent research track record relative to their career opportunities;
- Plan to undertake a clearly defined research project that is closely aligned with the Network’s themes;
- Are based in a research or industry organisation that is well-aligned to the Network and/or with whom we have an established relationship;
- Know which Network members they want to work closely with, and why; and
- Can commit to delivering one mutually agreed output (such as a journal article co-authored with a Network member, a workshop, a presentation) during the course of their visit that is commensurate with their length of stay.
